Hello, my name is Naomi Folta, and I would like to introduce myself as your AlphaNet Coordinator.
Currently, I live in Columbia, Missouri with my two Dachshunds and near my daughter and granddaughters. I also have a son that lives in Arizona.
I was diagnosed with Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency in the fall of 2009. I had a passion for dancing and started experiencing shortness of breath. I thought quitting smoking would make it better and I accomplished that in 2008. When I didn’t get any better, an appointment was made with a pulmonologist and by the third visit, I received my diagnosis.
I was very lucky that the pulmonary doctor I selected immediately tested me for Alpha-1, and I began Infusion therapy in early 2010. Physical fitness, eating well and staying as healthy as possible are my current goals. For fun, I like to crochet, weave, sew, bake treats for my dogs and cook.
I was the first in my family to be diagnosed, so it became very important for me to learn as much as possible about Alpha-1, as well as encourage all of my family members to receive testing. Joining this wonderful AlphaNet team gives me the opportunity to help others as I have been helped since my diagnosis.
